Virgin Galactic is seeking a Shift Duty Manager to work and support Tech Ops teammates during one of the 4 shift operations (Night Shift).
This role will support and provide management oversight of ground processing tasks for all ground and flight assets that Tech Ops maintains. The management guidance this role will provide shall enable efficient and effective performance of execution tasks that meet Tech Ops programmatic requirements with disciplined adherence to safe practices, company policies and FAA regulations. This is a full-time position at Virgin Galactic’s Gateway to Space at Spaceport America near Las Cruces, NM.
- Support the Technical Operations team safety, morale, and welfare oversight and program objectives,
- Ensure Tech Ops teammates and documentation process maintain compliance with applicable FAA regulations,
- Maintain department communication follow-ups across shifts for timely responses,
- Carry out delegated crew actions from respective functional managers for integration/implementation of improvement areas,
- Ensure compliance with set company policy, General Maintenance Manual policies & procedures, and mission objectives,
- Develop and maintain interdepartmental relationships to enable Tech Ops mission deliverables,
- Assist with maintaining department budget expenditures across shifts as per the AOP (Annual Operating Plan),
- Assist crew chief’s, leads and supervisors with personnel performance management tasks where applicable,
- Support management of crew movements across multiple company locations,
- Maintain and monitor overall crew productivity across all applicable assets on respective shift,
- Maintain and manage department metrics across applicable shift and provide status updates as applicable,
- Assist functional managers with maintaining training compliance of teammates across applicable shift,
- Support and participate in Safety Management System objectives and deliverables,
- Provide directional support for maintenance department corrective actions and preventive actions as assigned from SMS database,
- Champion change management and implementation projects as required,
- Any other duties as assigned and/or delegated from leadership to support shift operations.
Required Skills And Experience
- Bachelor’s related degree is preferred. However, consideration will be given for equivalent operational leadership experience,
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant License,
- 5 years or more in a maintenance environment leadership role,
- A successful track record and experience with process improvement in maintenance and/or MRO environments,
- Ability to manage in a fast paced and ever-changing environment,
- Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint,
- Ability to work in a paperless environment utilizing various computerized platforms,
- Excellent leadership and management skills, ability to multitask, apply good intrapersonal skills and utilize available resources to accomplish company goals,
- Must have good oral communication skills and ability to train others on the job,
- Ability to pass the background check to obtain a US airport AOA and/or NMSA spaceport badge,
- Must have a valid passport and a valid driver’s license ,
Physical And/or Additional Requirements
- Must be able to work assigned shift and available for overtime when needed.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods – 8 hours min.
- Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to work in tight spaces.
- Must be able to physically able to handle items weighing up to 40lbs (unassisted).
The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $96,600.00–$147,300.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
