Our long-term client relationship with KBR has led to a need for a Commercial Crew Program Integration Engineer on the Integrated Mission Operations Contract II (IMOC II) contract at Johnson Space Center (Houston, TX).

The Commercial Crew Program Integration Engineer Will
- Serve as an integration, test, and verification engineer on the Flight Operations Directorate (FOD) Commercial Crew Team, within the Program Integration Branch (CK3) of FOD’s Flight Integration Division (CK) and will also provide part-time support to CK’s Vehicle Integration Test Office (CK14) in support of the NASA Astronaut Office.
- Provide official representation of FOD to Commercial Providers (e.g., Boeing and Space-X), the Commercial Crew Program Office, FOD Management, FOD Assistant Director(s), the Flight Director Office (CA8), the Astronaut Office (CB), and the CK3 Program Integration Branch as requested.
- Focus primarily on helping FOD prepare for Boeing’s Crewed Flight Test (CFT) and subsequent Crewed missions. Support to Crewed Space-X (SpX) missions may also be performed.
- Participate in tests and demonstrations of Commercial Provider (CP) vehicle systems, Crew interfaces (e.g., displays and controls), Crew activities, and other tests as required which occur at JSC, CP facilities, and other locations.
- Serve as a Crew representative during tests, demonstrations, and training in order to ensure that the Crew Perspective is considered/addressed by providing feedback and operational insights and monitor Crew Safety as required.
- Document and follow up on Crew concerns from the activity and interact with the Crew on a regular basis.
- Lead or facilitate the resolution of technical issues identified by the Crew and ensure that the issues are being worked by the appropriate parties, analyze proposed solutions as they become available, and recommend acceptance or disapproval to the Crew. When necessary, go into the training facility and verify a requested “fix” has been completed; e.g., by personally running a procedure or testing a display.
- Plan, organize, and execute tests and activities by performing the following tasks for test plans, test procedures, and hazard analyses:
- Gather and integrate requirement owner and stakeholder inputs;
- Analyze/comment upon products to ensure that the activity will safely and adequately support the associated verification requirements;
- Ensure that the required data is provided to the Safety Review Board and Test Readiness Review in a timely manner;
- Work-off any residual issues so that the test/activity can commence on schedule; 5) Compare results against requirements to determine whether or not they satisfied associated verification requirements;
- Analyze and summarize test results in written form, then recommend appropriate follow-on actions and execute them.
- Serve as Executive Secretary of the FOD Operations Review Board (ORB) for the assigned vehicle; e.g., SpX Dragon. This includes authoring and distributing the “CCP Weekly Prep” product; distributing, tracking, and integrating FOD reviews/responses to CCP Change Requests and Verification-related products; helping CA8 organize and conduct ORBs and related meetings.
- Provide test and verification plans and status to FOD Management.
- Provide meeting support to assigned technical topics and forums.
- Provide technical and administrative support to Directorate, Astronaut Office, and Flight Director Office when required.
- Perform other duties as required.
Required Education/Experience/Skills
- BS Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Safety Engineering or related field from an accredited engineering school, college or university, plus five (5) years of experience.
- Knowledge of engineering principles and the ability to apply them to real-time operations is essential.
- Must have excellent integration skills.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, leadership, teamwork, technical, and administrative skills are mandatory.
- Attention to detail is required along with the ability to work/negotiate with multiple customers across NASA, ISS International Partners, and commercial providers daily.
- This position requires strict adherence to deadlines as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership skills are required.
- Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to plan, lead, and coordinate a wide range of tasks.
- Candidate must be able to apply technical knowledge and operations concepts to exercise effective decision making and initiative in a real-time and fast-paced operational environment.
- Candidate should be a self-starter who excels in a dynamic environment that requires him/her to work effectively both alone or as part of a team.
- Demonstrated performance in leadership roles, delivering win-win solutions, and understanding when to hold firm while considering all viewpoints is required.
- Must be able to support infrequent travel domestically or internationally.
Preferences
- Working knowledge of NASA flight operations, safety requirements, engineering, and physics, the FOD organization, and ISS Program knowledge is highly desired.
