Reporting to the Sr. Data Scientist, the Computer Vision Engineer will work with other data scientists and computer vision engineers in an interdisciplinary fashion, interfacing with key areas within the company related to production, testing, and mission operations. The computer vision engineer will primarily work with optical imagery and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data; the computer vision engineer will also interface with our production teams, leveraging methods such as image segmentation, object classification, and key point estimation to enhance our production processes.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Design and develop novel, reliable, and production-ready computer vision and machine learning and deep learning algorithms in areas such as real-time scene and object tracking, facial recognition and face tracking, body tracking, key point estimation, object tracking, depth sensing, generative approaches such as General Adversarial Networks (GANs), 3D stereo and volumetric estimation, and image reconstruction
- Design and develop novel, reliable, and production-ready computer vision and machine learning and deep learning algorithms in aerospace-relevant areas such as remote sensing, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), waterbody and land-mass segmentation, image differencing, and 3D building and object reconstruction (height and footprint estimation) from optical satellite imagery and other satellite data products
- Develop advanced, forward-thinking prototypes for enhanced space-domain awareness, from remote sensing applications to collision avoidance to satellite constellation repositioning
- Participate in cutting-edge research in computer vision that can be applied to satellite imagery and other data products from mission operations
- Work closely with mission operations, satellite engineering and payload engineering teams, and ground station operators in embedded teams and a cross-functional manner
Qualifications And Skills
- BS degree in computer science, computer vision, machine learning, deep learning, or a related technical field
- 3+ years of experience developing and designing computer vision, machine learning, deep learning technologies, and reliable, production-ready systems.
- 3+ years of experience in Python and C++
- Prototyping and engineering experience in at least one relevant specialization area in either computer vision or machine learning, or deep learning: object detection, image segmentation, object tracking and scene understanding, object detection and tracking, or General Adversarial Networks (GANs)
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or Ph.D. in computer science, computer vision, machine learning, robotics, or a related technical field
- 5+ years of aerospace industry experience working in computer vision and related remote sensing projects such as optical satellite image processing, image differencing, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), object detection and tracking, or similar area
- 5+ years of experience in Python and C++. Experience with Swift, Julia, Go, and other languages desired
- Strong publication track record at conferences such as (but not limited to) KDD, SIGGRAPH, CVPR, NIPS, ECCV, ICCV, ISMAR, ICML, and others
- Background in a machine learning experience with large-scale training and evaluation of deep convolutional and recurrent neural networks and General Adversarial Networks (GANs)
