The position is responsible for the overall direction and management of the aerospace operations of the New Mexico Spaceport Authority, from concept development through program implementation. This includes all activities required for safe operations of spaceport users and their vehicles, studies, research on activities, and support of environmental protection activities.
Responsibilities
As a key senior member of the Agency's executive management team the incumbent provides oversight of 1) space launches and reentries, 2) UAV operations, 3) ground-based aerospace operations such as kinetic launch and engine testing, and 4) all other technical operations occurring on site such as use of the runway for automobile testing or other aviation activities ; approves all flight safety assessments of space vehicles and launch platforms; directs the coordination of NMSA activities with the US Army White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), with the Federal Aviation Administration Office of Commercial Space Transportation (FAA AST), with the FAA Albuquerque Air Route Traffic Control Center (FAA ZAB), and with the FAA ATO Central Service Center | Operations Support Group (FAA AJV-C23); and assures compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). As well, the incumbent interfaces with national and international commercial, civil and government aerospace organizations to support the provision of solutions and services that result in increased utilization of the spaceport's facilities and capabilities.
Moreover, the position oversees aerospace-related technical, technological, and operational issues that may arise at Spaceport America and provides technical direction to spaceport personnel, contractors and launch operators as may be required. The position is further charged with the development, maintenance and implementation of spaceport safe operating policies and procedures. During business development actions, the incumbent will participate in the development of proposals to prospective tenants, and in review and approval of new tenant activities. The position assists with review of proposals received by the agency for items such as procurement of support services and acquisition of infrastructure items.
Qualifications
A Master's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of professional level experience with a strategic impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment.
