Job Summary
We are looking for an attentive and driven GIS Technician to join our team. Your main duties will be to perform activities that support the Operations Team, which may also involve support to Product, Engineering, Rapid Prototyping, Marketing and Sales Teams.
This non-exempt (hourly) position will report directly to one of the Operations Team Managers.
A successful GIS Technician will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively while maintaining strong interpersonal skills and professionalism, a curiosity and genuine eagerness to learn, ability to handle multiple tasks, show insight for improvement of workflows and product features.
Job Responsibilities may include:
- Work with senior and GIS tech team members on precise data processing to required specifications
- Support the Product Teams to implement customer requirements
- Perform research and fulfill current and future needs with machine learning algorithms
- Ensure data is accurate, complete and consistent through validation
- Creating and updating maps and visualizations for projects, as well as assigning and validating data to be included in visualizations
- Learn and implement new technologies as necessary
- Learn about satellite orbits, and different kinds of satellite imagery modes
- Analyze imagery from a wide range of providers and formats
- Participate in process design discussions
- Providing technical support, such as troubleshooting and resolving issues
- While an 8 am to 5 pm schedule is expected, other hours may be required as business needs arise.
- Possible shift work (6am - 2pm, 8am - 5pm or 2pm -10pm EST), with a shift differential applied to early or late shifts.
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Experience with interacting with computers
- Attention to detail
- Enthusiasm for learning new things
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to juggle multiple projects/requests at once
- Ability to work within a team environment and be self sufficient
- If you are going to work remotely, a reliable Internet connection is required
Location
- Ithaca, NY (office environment)
- Remote positions also available
Preferred Skills
- Associates or Bachelor degree preferred, but not required
- GIS experience is a plus
- Experience in programming languages, such as Python, is a plus
- Familiarity with software applications such as Google Earth, QGIS, ArcGIS
Compensation
- $20 to $23 an hour, based on experience
