In More Detail
A telecommunications working student is sought to work on an RF measurement system intended for airborne platforms (drones). The system will support the near field measurement of large dish antennas used in satellite communications.
- Design and evaluate RF circuits (amplifiers, PLLs, filters) in the 500MHz to 10GHz area.
- Understand, bring up, test, collect measurements and evaluate the overall performance of existing RF hardware. Identify weaknesses, improvements and enhancements to the existing RF measurement approach and hardware.
- Simulate the full system with Matlab to confirm decided trades and predict the performance of improvements.
- Redesign the RF hardware according to test results, incorporating improvements, new features, performance enhancements, lessons learned, also fulfil new requirements as they come from the customer.
- Do component selection and electronic board layout design. Perform all necessary simulations with suitable RF ECAD packages. Complete own layout using layout ECAD tools.
- Bring up, debug and do functional verification of the redesigned boards, do system integration. Collect and evaluate measurements, correlate with simulation and system design expectations.
- Potential opportunities in other areas of interest depending on time available and priorities.
Profil
- Working towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree with background in telecommunications, electronics or signal processing.
- Strong interest or some experience in high frequency electronics design in the RF domain (500MHz to 10GHz area).
- Laboratory experience with basic RF measurement instruments (oscilloscope, spectrum analyser, network analyser).
- Strong interest or some experience in simulations in Matlab
- Some experience in electronic board schematic design and layout. Some exposure to ECAD PCBA design tools, preferably Altium.
- Some knowledge and experience in optoelectronics.
- Driving personality that enjoys functioning independently, exceeding expectations, working outside of the comfort zone and brings a “can do” attitude.
- Willing to work predominantly on-premises.
- Willing to explore additional areas of interest as time and priority permits.
