Job Description
The Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Engineering Manager is responsible for management of people, process and tools for the DSP Engineering Group. Related directly to programs, the Manager helps to ensure that the DSP designs provided to SEAKR products are designed with consistently high quality following thorough design processes according to the program schedules. With input from Product Line stakeholders, Program Management, and the Director of FPGA and ASIC Engineering, the DSP Engineering Manager will work with Program and Functional Group Managers to provide qualified personnel staffing commensurate with cost, schedule and technical execution requirements of individual programs. The Manager is also responsible for the acquisition of talent and implementation of training programs when sufficient resources are not available to meet program demands. The DSP Engineering Manager will evaluate the overall performance of the DSP Engineering group related to program execution and will implement communication channels for technical guidance. The Manager is responsible for monitoring the performance of the DSP Engineers. This is a full-time exempt position in which the work is performed underlimited supervision by the Director of FPGA and ASIC Engineering and is evaluated on results obtained.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities- Staff
- Focus on career guidance and growth for the members of the group
- Mentor DSP Engineers on SEAKR and the SEAKR DSP development processes, and SEAKR product lines
- Review program staffing with PMs and Program VPs to ensure adequate personnel and skill mix are present
- Resolve staffing conflicts between programs
- DSP Engineering staff resource assignment and management which includes performance management, performance review generation and communication with engineer; hiring, firing, disciplinary actions, new employee orientation, position descriptions, and review and authorization of time cards
- Analyze staffing profile projections, forecasting strategic hiring and planning of staff for ongoing programs and future program awards
- Update and maintain the Line Manager Staffing Plan (LMSP) for the DSP Engineering group on at least a monthly basis
- When the need for additional DSP Engineering personnel is identified, aggressively pursue candidates and get to the point of generating offers expediently
- Participate in the onboarding of DSP Engineering new hires
- Identify gaps in technical knowledge and create training to close the technical gaps for the DSP Engineering group
- Process
- Articulate the SEAKR DSP development processes to DSP Engineers through training and mentoring
- Advocate for the SEAKR DSP development processes, monitoring adherence to the processes by participating in design reviews
- Maintain the DSP development processes in collaboration with the FPGA Engineering Manager by identifying enhancements and updating process documents (SEPs, SEWIs, and SEFs) as needed
- Serve as a key reference for the DSP Engineering organization and other organizations (e.g. Program Management and Senior Leadership) within SEAKR
- Tools
- Maintain DSP Engineering specific tools and licensing – evaluating new tool versions as they become available
- Work with DSP Engineers to help resolve design tool issues
- Establish and maintain working relationships with design tool vendors to work through design tool issues
- Authorize and purchase DSP Engineering tools
- Execution
- Lead or participate in the development of ROM, Cost Plus, and FFP proposals for complex systems
- Participate in design reviews and customer reviews of the work produced by DSP Engineers
- Participate in project DSP design work as time allows when other priorities are met
Other Duties/Responsibilities
- Foster communication amongst individuals within the DSP Engineering organization as well as inter-group communication with other organizations
- Participate in or prepare a variety of special projects at the direction of the management of the company
- Understand and promote the SEAKR vision as articulated by senior management
- Read professional journals and updates and attend seminars to keep aware of trends
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering, or the equivalent combination of training and experience
- 10+ years of Hardware Engineering experience
Additional Information
Compensation: Base pay range is $140,000-180,000 depending on qualifications. SEAKR has very rich medical, dental and vision insurance plans, along with a generous 401(k) retirement plan. In addition to base salary, employees are eligible for a year-end bonus. SEAKR offers a variety of paid leave, such as vacation, sick, bereavement, and FMLA.
