We are looking for a Senior Aerothermal Engineer with an experimental focus to join our Systems Architecture, Performance and Aerothermal (SAPA) team. The ideal candidate will have a passion and flair for research and development, solving technical challenges, and a desire to work on a variety of projects in an autonomous and dynamic environment.
You will lead, or contribute to, technology development and experimental verification and validation activities in support of Reaction Engines’ heat exchanger products and thermal management for strategic programmes. In particular, this is likely to include scoping experiments, running in-house wind tunnel and calorific tests as the prime investigator, liaising with external partners, and closing the loop on validation of numerical analysis and tools. The candidate may also contribute to design activities and project delivery, utilising a combination of low order methods (0D / 1D heat exchanger and heat transfer models, python scripts, etc) and CFD analysis depending on experience to inform, explain, and justify design decisions within multidisciplinary teams, depending on skills.
To be successful you'll need:
- To be qualified to Masters degree level in a STEM subject
- Experience of experimental programmes including the acquisition, analysis, and reduction of experimental data towards verification and validation activities
- In depth knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer
- Experience in the simulation of thermo-fluid systems and using a variety of 0D-3D modelling tools
- A passion for research and development, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer
- Thrive on and motivated by technical challenges, and possess a strong ability to solve technical and practical problems independently (a can-do approach)
- Able to work in a dynamic environment across several projects in parallel
Reaction Engines is committed to fairness and inclusivity. Research tells us that applicants tend to only apply when they feel they meet 100% of the criteria. If you believe you have what it takes and this role excites you, but you don’t align perfectly with the criteria listed, we encourage you to still apply. We’d love to have a discussion!
