Staff Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Engineer
Position Summary
Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as a
GSE Engineer. If you join us in this position, you will be a part of the Ground Support Equipment (GSE) engineering team, supporting the design, fabrication, installation, activation, and maintenance of our test stands. This role may also include occasional console operations limited to stand/component activation and maintenance-related checkouts. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills.
This is a
full-time position at our rocket test facility in beautiful
Mojave, California.
Your Part of the Mission
- NX Modeling, Assembly, GD&T.
- GSE Installation planning and execution.
- Test Stand activation planning.
- Perform fundamental fluid flow, heat transfer and structural analysis to contribute to the design and development of new propulsion test facilities.
- Assist Propulsion Test Engineers in writing test plans, test procedures, stand maintenance work instructions and maintain configuration management system.
- Perform data analysis and prepare data reviews and reports to evaluate test facility performance.
- Work with technicians in the field to assemble, modify, and maintain test stands.
- Coordinate with technicians to operate high pressure cryogenic facilities to prepare test facility for testing.
- Support certification tests for propulsion sub-systems and components.
- Support continued reliability of existing test stands.
- Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place.

- Perform other duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline.
- 2+ years of professional experience in an assembly, integration, manufacturing or test environment working on satellite or rocket systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- General knowledge of fluid systems, including cryogenics and pressure vessels, as well as instrumentation.
- Comfortable working hands-on with hardware, including fittings, piping, and instrumentation.
- Experience writing and maintaining test procedures or hardware work instructions.
- Experience with NX, Teamcenter, JIRA, MATLAB.
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability and willingness to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
- Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement.
- Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space.
- Self-driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement, inter-team communication skills, and attention to detail.

What You'll Need: Salary Range
$80,000 - $110,000
