Position Summary
Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high-speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.
To achieve these great efforts, Stratolaunch needs a Staff GNC Engineer to participate in the development of the hypersonic flight control system.
As a Staff GNC Engineer, you will have ownership of GNC algorithms that contribute to the development and flight of the hypersonic research vehicle. You will be considered a subject matter expert and will contribute to the design, development, meeting requirements, performing verification activities, and test execution for the hypersonic vehicle flight control system. This position will include evaluation of a broad range of technical data.
This position is based in Mojave, CA. Candidates must have strong controls and aircraft development background.
Essential Responsibilities
- Development and evaluation of advanced algorithms to satisfy Guidance, Navigation, and Control requirements
- Development of hypersonic dynamic truth modeling and analysis tools
- Creation of Algorithm Description Documents (ADDs) to document GNC designs
- Perform analysis to verify algorithm designs meet requirements
- Contributions to aspects of the overall flight control system design, development, implementation, integration, and test
- Development of engineering tools, as needed, to complete the tasking
- Mentor junior engineers in various areas of GNC
- Regular and comprehensive communication to the Vehicle Management System and GNC Leads

Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic, and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology.
The individual operating in this capacity will be responsible for troubleshooting, fabrication, installation and maintenance of carrier aircraft systems and components. As Stratolaunch expands our program base this person may be tasked to other, new projects and in the development vehicles requiring the skills, knowledge and abilities utilized on this current project.
Essential Responsibilities
- Troubleshooting, fabrication, installation and maintenance of carrier aircraft systems and components Including:
- Fuel systems and components
- Hydraulic systems and components
- Pneumatic systems and components
- Electrical systems and components
- Engine systems and components
- Airframe and aircraft structures
- Operate all power tools and equipment necessary to accomplish job assignment
- Complete all required installation maintenance records in an accurate and timely manner
- Interpret and work in accordance with written work instructions, technical manuals, engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics
- Operate related ground handling equipment utilized to service the aircraft
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in aircraft systems troubleshooting, fabrication, installation and maintenance preferred, Including:
- Fuel systems and components
- Hydraulic systems and components
- Pneumatic systems and components
- Electrical systems and components
- Engine systems and components
- Airframe and aircraft structures
- A strong understanding of the importance of FOD control and tool control
- Detail oriented – strong attention to detail
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing philosophies and tools a plus.
- Personnel safety mentality – not just work safely, but promote a culture of safety
- Honesty, responsibility, accuracy, integrity and fulfillment of commitments
- Ability to problem solve and adapt quickly to changing priorities
- Ability to work independently, responsible, take the initiative
- Physically able to handle items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Other duties as determined/assigned by management
Education & Experience
- Current A & P license preferred
- 3+ years of experience in aircraft systems fabrication installation and maintenance preferred

- $38.00-$47.00 Hourly
- This position is located in Mojave, Ca.
- This position may require travel to offsite locations depending on aircraft dispatch location
