Position Summary
Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking an experienced
Launch Technician with familiarity in gas and fluids systems, who can contribute to a small team responsible for launch operations of LauncherOne. Help us design, build, and operate the systems that will prepare the vehicle for launch including loading fuel, liquid oxygen, and high pressure gasses. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills.
This is a
full-time position at Virgin Orbit's aerospace facility in
Mojave, California.
Your Part of the Mission
- Stage, set up, assemble, test and install flight hardware.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and instrumentation as needed.
- Operate the GSE during ground fueling operations of LauncherOne.
- Collaborate with engineering to develop and document vehicle loading and launch day procedures.
- Follow all necessary regulations and Virgin Orbit's procedures including quality policies, safety policies, OSHA, EPA, NIOSH, NFPA, AS.
- Must be able to communicate clearly, both in person and over coms, while running test and launch day procedures.
- Read, interpret, and work from free form drawings as well as from controlled documentation and processes.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED .
- 2+ years of experience at a test site or launch pad.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong mathematical, basic computer, problem solving and decision making skills, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Certifications within aerospace, aviation or automotive.
- Experience with forklifts, cranes and heavy equipment.
- Graduated from a technical college or other recognized apprenticeship.
- Experience in the aerospace industry, aviation, military or other high-reliability operating environment.
- Experience with pressure, temperature and flow measurement devices, mechanical and electrical systems, and propulsion engines.
- Experience with pneumatic/hydraulic system fabrication.
- Ability to use precision calibrated tools – torque wrenches, micrometers and calipers.
- Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space.
- Experience fabricating and operating tubing and pressure systems up to 15,000psig.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment.
- Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement.
- Ability to add something unique and positive to our team.
- Generally high level of all-around awesomeness.

Additional Qualifications
- Must be able to provide proof of US-approved Covid-19 full vaccination status, unless otherwise exempted by an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation from Virgin Orbit.
- Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods – 8 hours minimum.
- Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces.
- Ability to lift 25lbs unassisted.
- Ability to travel (up to 25% of time).
Salary Range
$24.50 - $34.00
